Creation and Sponsorship PNG Annual Nationwide Spelling Bee. An Open Proposal

A Proposal for Corporate Marketing Divisions: Creation and Sponsorship PNG Annual Nationwide Spelling Bee.

This is a proposal for anybody to consider. Please send your comments to jsmare@gmail.com

Creation and Sponsorship PNG Annual Nationwide Spelling Bee.

For some time now, I have been thinking about how we can develop a Nationwide activity sponsored by a Corporate brand that can enhance the excitement in education and learning of English in Primary school children and throughout society.

My open proposal for any corporate company to consider is the development of a sponsored Annual Papua New Guinea Spelling Bee for Primary School Children, irrespective of which school they go to.

For the Corporate sponsor or sponsors, this event provides them the opportunity for their Vision and Values to achieve widespread recognition and support across society, as they encourage intellectual development build human capacity among young people in PNG. T

This activity will solely be funded primarily by the Corporate Sponsor(s) as a public relations, community relations activity.

I believe that for a Sponsor, the return on investment on the Nationwide Spelling Bee would be immense as students, teachers, schools, parents and provinces get behind their contestants.

It would be the kind of grassroots – marketing movement that any organization can only dream of, in terms of mass appeal (winning the hearts and minds) as well capacity development of the children of Papua New Guinea.

While many may think that sponsorship of a national sporting event, may achieve this goal, I believe that many organisations and companies have been short sighted in their contributions to developing young people, focusing primarily on physical sports and ignoring other important areas of their lives.

This has created a cluttered marketing environment with many corporate organisations and brands spending millions of kina and many years in sponsoring sports events, yet reaping little in return on investments in terms of loyalty, respect and general brand awareness.

Being Different Means Being Smart

The Annual Nationwide Spelling Bee is the opportunity for a Corporate Organisation to develop Intellectual Sports among young people in Papua New Guinea through the sponsorship of an annual national event that involves students, schools, teachers and parents.

The main sponsor will having the naming rights of the event, for example the Telikom Nationwide Spelling Bee or Oil Search Nationwide Spelling Bee or Theodist Nationwide Spelling Bee.

The Format (or a general idea)

   Name:

The (Corporate Sponsor) Annual Nationwide Spelling Bee

    Role of the Main Sponsor:

The Corporate Sponsor will fund and take part in the development of the event.

Minor Sponsors:

There will be minor sponsors for the Provincial Tournaments as well as having naming rights of the Provincial teams. For example, Barrick sponsors the Enga Primary Schools Regional Tournament, the winners form the Barrick Enga Province Team in the Nationwide Semi-Finals.

Spelling Bee Format:

The Spelling Bee will be feature provincial tournaments culminating in the National Finals hosted by Corporate Sponsor in Port Moresby.

Eligibility

The spelling Bee will only be open to Grade 5 students and Grade 7 students, irrespective of age, as long as their schools are part of the PNG Education System.

Media:

The Semi-Finals and Finals will be broadcast on Television and Radio. The provincial tournaments will be covered by local media. The nature of this event should lend itself to media coverage easily.

Prizes:

The winner, first and second runners up as well as the Provincial Champions will receive prizes of some sort, as set by the organizing committee and according to sponsors and sponsorship.

What are the benefits to the all who participate in the event including the children, the schools, parents, communities as well as the sponsors?

a. The Nationwide Spelling Bee is High Educational Value Activity that encourages school children in PNG to perfect the art of spelling, enlarges their vocabularies and widens their knowledge of the English language (the main language of the PNG education system)

b. Establish an annual event that enhances Sponsor(s) reputation (s) and increase public goodwill towards the Sponsor(s)

c. Increase Literacy Rates in Papua New Guinea schools

d. It will be the first national event dedicated to intellectual sport.

Conclusion

The Nationwide Spelling Bee will inspire a generation of young Papua New Guineans to practice and develop a solid grasp of the English Language spelling, grammar and vocabulary.

Interest in the competition will naturally lead to more students studying words, pronunciation and uses.

The Spelling Bee will create an immense amount of Goodwill towards the main sponsor and enhance its community reputation across the country.

Furthermore, the event will attract the media coverage on Television, Radio and Print; it will easily spark the imagination of the public, creating an immense amount of positive energy towards all sponsors and create a brand reputation that money cannot buy.

A whole new generation will come to know main Sponsor every year through the event.

The (Sponsor) Nationwide Spelling Bee will be a highly competitive annual spelling bee in PNG.

I have spoken to teachers and headmasters in many places in PNG for their views of such an event and all support it, stating that it will inspire children to read and spell better.

Costs

I believe the cost of this event would be less than K100,000 per year (but this is just an estimate)

Return on Investment

The Public Relations value of National Spelling Bee to the main sponsor would be worth more than K1 million every year as student contestants, their schools, teachers, parents and provinces prepare for the event.

With the semi and finals broadcast nationwide and covered in the media, Sponsor(s) will win both grassroots and national support as a Papua New Guinean company that cares about the future generations of Papua New Guineans.

This is a proposal for anybody to consider.
